Union College Earns NAIA Five-Star Silver AwardThe National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recognized Union College as a Five-Star Champions of Character Silver Award winner for 2014-15, the national office announced recently.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

Union scored 84 points to earn the Silver Award. There are three levels of awards: Gold (90 or more points), Silver (75-89 points) and Bronze (60-74).

The Champions of Character program exists to build character that will be recognized on and off the field by all parties affiliated with athletics. The five core values at the heart of the Champions of Character program are integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

Of the 236 NAIA institutions, 169 schools and 20 conferences were represented with Five-Star honors.
