The Legacy Archway, situated on the front of campus along College Street, was funded through donations, and represents the culmination of many years of fundraising and planning.

“It makes an excellent addition to campus and our traditions here at Union,” said Brian Strunk, Executive Director of Development. “Each fall, our arriving freshman class will walk through the archway as a symbolic first step and entry into collegiate life. Upon graduation, they will pass back through the archway on the way to commencement, representing their first steps into world beyond Union College.

“This project has been a real passion project for Steve Hoskins, our Vice President for Business Services” said Dr. Marcia Hawkins, President of Union College. “Steve has been one of the most faithful supporters of this project, and we are happy to see this addition to our picturesque front of campus.”

The Legacy Archway will also honor gifts made out of wills and bequests. Members of Union’s office of Advancement are compiling a list of received estate gifts which will prominently appear on the brick work, to serve as reminder that as Union looks out upon the world, it does so because of the rich history of philanthropy of friends and alumni.

Present for the dedication were (left to right): Don Calitri, Board Secretary Frank Beaty, Board Treasurer Kay Dixon, Terri Cahill, Board Chair Don Jones, President Marcia Hawkins, Vice President for Business and Finance Steve Hoskins, Roy Pulliam, David Ackley, Vice President for Learning and Information Resources Tara Cooper, Board Vice Chair Don Lane, and James Hall.
