Union College is shocked and saddened to share the news of the passing of Steve E. Hoskins, ’85. Steve began working for Union in November 1990, and held a number of roles, culminating in his service as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Business and Financial Services.

Steve never shirked from a challenge, and actively served as a key administrator for many years. Serving as a bulwark for institutional memory and faithful stewardship, Steve’s leadership came to Union College during many key events in recent years, including expansions in enrollment, academic offerings, and facilities. The physical size of campus grew as he oversaw the purchase of numerous adjacent properties, allowing Union to meet the space needs of a growing campus community.

Operating behind the scenes, Steve preferred to work diligently and did not seek recognition for his accomplishments or professional service to Union College. Most visibly, he led the fundraising challenge that constructed the Legacy Archway on the front of campus. This archway was a long-term vision for Steve, and he was pleased to see it finished in the Spring of 2018.

Steve worked long hours, and it was frequently remarked that you could always expect to find him in the office well before others arrived and long after others had left. He was a loyal son of Union College, and lived a life that was in service to, and for the betterment of, Union College.

He will be missed, dearly. A visitation will be held from 1:00PM - 3:00PM on Friday, January 11th in Conway Boatman Chapel. The funeral will follow at 3:00 PM.

Out of respect, and to allow coworkers to attend, all Union College offices will close tomorrow at 2pm.
