Spiritual Life
You Are a Beacon of God's Love
What is Spiritual Life all about?
The Office of Spiritual Life oversees the campus ministries of the college. We are guided by:
The Way of Love
We are followers of the way of love that Jesus taught, practiced, and lived. Love is at the heart of all the world’s religions, and all who want to follow this way are welcome.
Radical Acceptance
We have experienced God’s acceptance and therefore don’t feel the need to condemn or judge anyone. “But what if I’m _______?” Conservative or liberal; straight or gay; believer, seeker, or doubter; any faith or no faith at all; it doesn’t matter to us. However you fill in the blank, you are loved and accepted at all Spiritual Life activities.
Self-Discovery
We believe every person is created in God’s image. No matter what we might do to dim that image, the very core of who we are is goodness, truth, and beauty. We look for who God has created us to become and emphasize what is good, true, and beautiful in everyone. In this way we let our light shine and become a beacon of God’s love.
Spiritual Maturity
We believe that as we grow into what God has created us to become we will show these signs of spiritual maturity, which the Bible calls “the fruit of the Spirit. . . love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (from Galatians 5:22-23).
Spiritual Leadership
Our ministries produce spiritual leaders who have discovered who God has created us to become, who love our neighbors through service, who lead others through the processes of spiritual self-discovery and service, and who are ready to launch out into the world after graduation.
