OUR BRAND
When some people hear the word “brand,” they think of a logo — a distinct typeface, a meaningful color palette, a recognizable mark.
But a brand is more than a visual identity. A strong brand captures the essence of who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re going. It’s a reflection of our mission and values, and it helps us tell a consistent, compelling story — one that unites past, present, and future.
At Union Commonwealth University, our brand is an expression of the spirit that sets us apart. It’s grounded in service to others, shaped by our Appalachian roots and Methodist heritage, and elevated by our commitment to the liberal arts. It represents tradition, transformation, and a tight-knit community where students become leaders, friends become family, and every voice matters.
The Union Brand Guide outlines the core elements of that identity — from visual tools to tone of voice — and offers direction for applying them thoughtfully across all audiences and platforms. These elements work together to build a cohesive and inspiring image of our institution, helping us communicate with clarity, consistency, and pride.
Each of us who shares the Union story plays a role in bringing our brand to life. With care and consistency, we can express the values that make Union Commonwealth a place of purpose — and a place to call home.
To support that consistency, the logos below are the official visual marks of Union Commonwealth University. They reflect our updated name and identity and should be used in all communications moving forward. Outdated logos and former name references should be retired from use — including by outside vendors and partners — to ensure our brand is accurately and proudly represented.

LOGOS
The Union Commonwealth University brand uses several important logos. Each has a specific role and function.

Primary Wordmark
This is Union Commonwealth University’s primary academic mark.
It should appear clearly and unaltered on all academic communications to maintain consistency and integrity across institutional materials.

Secondary Wordmark
This secondary mark may be used when space constraints or layout limitations make the primary mark impractical.
It maintains brand integrity while offering flexibility in design.

Monogram Logo
The Union Commonwealth University monogram is one of our most recognizable visual marks.
While it has traditionally been associated with athletics and spirit-based uses, the monogram will now be used more broadly across the institution to reinforce school pride and visibility. However, it should still be used thoughtfully and not replace the primary wordmark in formal academic communications.
