Union College supports Kentucky Harvest Southeast food drive and wins Golden Can

Union College has supported the efforts of Kentucky Harvest Southeast to feed the region’s hungry families by collecting more than 5,000 pounds of food. The food drive is part of the annual Golden Can competition, in which Kentucky Harvest Southeast challenges Union and the University of the Cumberlands to collect food for area food banks.

Union College Vice President Visits Center for Innovation

Dr. David Johns, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Union College, visited with students, staff and faculty at the Center for Innovation (CFI) on October 29, 2015.  Dr. Johns expressed his keen interest in collaborating with the CFI to create college and career pathways for students to be able to pursue postsecondary education.

Union College’s education program granted national accreditation

Union College professor awarded Kentucky Historical Society Scholarly Research Fellowship

Union College Assistant Professor of History Dr. Joseph W. Pearson received the Kentucky Historical Society Scholarly Research Fellowship for 2015. The award will enable Dr. Pearson to complete a book-length project entitled “Once Upon a Time in the West: Kentucky’s Bourgeois Frontier, 1790-1850.”

Union College, Appalachian Regional Healthcare partner to host Veterans Appreciation Day

Union College will host Veterans Appreciation Day sponsored by Appalachian Regional Healthcare on Saturday, Nov. 7, to honor the area’s veterans and active military personnel. As part of Veterans Appreciation Day, everyone will receive free admission to the Union football game against Bluefield College. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Wise collects 400th career win in 3-1 in conference decision

Union College volleyball head coach Jeremy Wise added another milestone to his career as he collected his 400th career win as the Bulldogs defeated host Montreat (N.C.) 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-15) in Appalachian Athletic Conference action, Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs are now 18-7 overall and 11-1 in league play.

Union College students receive PRIDE Volunteer of the Month Award

The Union College freshman class earned the PRIDE Volunteer of the Month Award for participating in Service Day — one-day service “blitz” in their new community. On Aug. 22, groups of 20 to 25 students performed community service at 13 locations in the region. A total of 230 students participated.

Golden Can food drive underway; Union College challenged to defend trophy

The Pursuit of the Golden Can is a collegiate food drive competition held annually between southeastern Kentucky colleges including Union College, University of the Cumberlands and Eastern Kentucky University. Union has bested the other schools in the competition since entering the program four years ago.

Union College hosts gripping documentary '1971' which exposes the FBI

Union College presents 1971 with director and producer Johanna Hamilton as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers at Rector Little Theatre on Wednesday, October 14. Hamilton will be in attendance and hold a discussion following the film. The event is free and open to the public.

Union College men's soccer team upsets No. 1 University of Rio Grande

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, but it's even better when you are lucky and good. Such was the case for No. 25 Union College as it defeated visiting No. 1 University of Rio Grande (Ohio) 2-1 on Saturday in non-conference men's soccer action.

New tuition program at Union College to focus on southeast Kentucky students

Union College recently announced the Southeastern Kentucky Grant, a tuition assistance program which will be available to students beginning in the fall of 2016. The new program was unveiled to high school guidance counselors during a conference with Union’s financial aid and admissions personnel.

With every college town comes football season. With football season comes tailgaters. For Union College fans in Barbourville, tailgating now means taking over downtown on game day. Business owners in downtown Barbourville have announced the creation of Union Hometown Tailgate.
