During the showcase, fellows presented capstone projects reflecting on their experiences and the real-world work they completed throughout the semester. Guests had the opportunity to hear directly from students about how internships helped shape their career goals, build confidence, and deepen their connection to the community they call home.
The event also underscored the importance of retaining talent in Eastern Kentucky by connecting students with opportunities close to home. By building bridges between higher education and local employers, the Presidential Fellows Program helps students envision successful futures in the region while helping organizations cultivate a stronger workforce pipeline.
Throughout the evening, fellows engaged with trustees, employers, and guests whose support helped make the inaugural semester a success.
The success of the first cohort reflects what is possible when communities come together with a shared purpose. Through collaboration, mentorship, and investment in local talent, Rural Up and Union Commonwealth University are helping to create lasting opportunities that benefit students, employers, and the region as a whole.
