Union Commonwealth University celebrated community partnership and academic achievement as the Bulldogs men’s basketball defeated Alice Lloyd College 90–80 on Tuesday inside Robsion Arena.

More than 300 students from Barbourville High School attended the game, creating an energetic atmosphere and strengthening the partnership between Union and local schools. The visit recognized the School District for retaining “Blue” status and ranking among Kentucky’s top-performing districts for accountability and assessment testing during the current academic year.

During halftime, students who achieved Distinguished performance levels on state assessments were recognized.

With most Union students already home for Christmas break, the strong student turnout provided a meaningful lift for the Bulldogs.

“We are proud to open our doors and welcome these students to campus,” said Clay Butler, Vice President of Athletics at Union Commonwealth University. “Events like this allow us to showcase Bulldog athletics while strengthening meaningful connections with our local schools and community. Seeing the stands filled with young people reminds us why we do what we do.”

Union’s  Admissions team was also present in support of the Knox County Tuition-Free Pathway, reinforcing the University’s commitment to building lasting connections with local students and families while showcasing educational opportunities close to home.

University leadership expressed appreciation to the Barbourville Independent School District administration, along with Union’s Athletics Department—coaches, staff, and student-athletes—for organizing an event that connected campus and community through athletics and celebration.
