Union to Host First-Ever Registration Day for Knox County Seniors

Maisie Nelson • February 25, 2026

Union Commonwealth University will host its first annual Registration Day exclusively for seniors from Barbourville Independent High School, Knox Central High School, Lynn Camp High School, and local homeschool students on March 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving area students a jump start on their college journey.

The event will provide seniors from Knox County with early access to Fall 2026 course registration, one-on-one support from university faculty and staff, and personalized assistance completing any remaining enrollment steps before the semester begins. Students will also be able to ask questions, finalize plans, and ensure they are fully prepared for a successful transition to college.

This marks the first time the Office of Admissions has hosted an event of this kind, created in response to the strong momentum generated by the Knox County Pathway program announced last fall. The initiative allows eligible students to attend Union tuition-free, helping them focus on their education and future without the burden of student loan debt.

James Becknell, Vice President for Undergraduate Recruitment, said the event reflects the university’s commitment to local students.

“We want Knox County seniors to feel confident and excited about beginning college, and this day is designed to remove barriers and answer questions before they even arrive on campus. The response we’ve seen shows how eager these students are to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Following the Pathway announcement, 93% of Knox County seniors applied to Union, and 90% of those applicants have already been admitted.

“It’s been inspiring to see the excitement from students and school counselors across Knox County. They understand what this opportunity means, and Registration Day is another step in helping them start strong and feel supported from day one,” said Savanna Carroll, Admissions Counselor who has worked closely with local counselors and students.

So far, 35 seniors have already registered for the event. Accepted students are encouraged to sign up by March 16 to reserve their spot. Registration is available here.
